Shawnee Community College Hires New Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Dr. Kristin Shelby, Dean of Transfer and Adult Education

ULLIN, IL (April 11, 2024) – Shawnee Community College would like to announce the hiring of a new head women’s basketball coach.

SCC Dean of Transfer and Adult Education, Dr. Kristin Shelby will take the helm and has hit the ground running to recruit players for the upcoming season, which begins in November.

Shelby coached and played collegiately at John A. Logan College. She also coached basketball at Century High School.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to coach at Shawnee and bring a brand of basketball that adds to the rich tradition of the Lady Saints’ program,” Shelby said.

When asked what she was looking forward to most, Shelby added, “Having a positive impact on the lives of young women and helping them achieve their goals in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in life. The things I cherish most about coaching are not the wins and championships won, it’s the relationships I’ve built with my players and their families that matter and seeing them grow into successful women.”

More than three dozen of Shelby’s former players went on to play at four-year colleges and universities and she plans to continue that trend while at Shawnee.
