About Me
Hartzel Black retired as past Vice President of Management and Training Corporation as well as past Vice President of Technology at Southeastern Illinois College. Hartzel has served on the Foundation Board since 2023.
Hartzel graduated from Massac County High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Murray State University and his Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky. Hartzel taught in the field of education for five years and was then promoted to Director of Correctional Education, operating five prison education programs. Hartzel’s passion for the opportunity to change lives, one life at a time, assisted in his success in solving recidivism issues in Illinois.
As his career advanced, Hartzel wrote a program entitled “Success for Life” which is currently used in all Management and Training correctional facilities. In serving on the Foundation Board, Hartzel is interested in seeing individuals advance in vocational training, as well as in the development of competency-based training programs and the expansion of those throughout the College district.
