ANNA, IL (July 9, 2024)—Shawnee Community College is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program, set to begin in the upcoming fall semester. This innovative two-year program is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled occupational therapy assistants and provide students with a comprehensive education and extensive hands-on training in this vital healthcare field. This ensures that they are well-prepared for their future careers.
To celebrate the importance of this program, SCC will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and provide tours of the newly renovated facility at the Shawnee Community College Union County Extension Center. The celebration will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. at 1150 East Vienna Street, Anna, Illinois.
“The need for highly trained occupational therapy assistants is on the rise in this area,” said Mandy Hannan, Dean of Allied Health and Nursing at Shawnee Community College. “Our Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is a direct response to this need, and we are committed to providing our students with a top-tier education that prepares them for successful careers in healthcare.”
OTA has a rich history of being taught through the Southern Illinois Collegiate Common Market in collaboration with other institutions. However, starting in Fall 2024, the program will be exclusively offered at Shawnee Community College, making it a unique opportunity for people in southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and western Kentucky.
