Shawnee Community College students recently competed virtually at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s 23rd annual Accounting Challenge. The School of Accountancy in SIU’s College of Business and Analytics sponsored the event for participants who tested their skills in individual and team competitions. The event, which took place virtually this year, includes a written accounting skills test followed by a creative team challenge that involves imaginative problem-solving contests.
When the competition wrapped up and the scores were announced, two individuals from Shawnee Community College received accounting scholarships. First place was awarded to Kaitlyn May, who received a $500 scholarship, and second place was awarded to Jaiden Sanders, who received a $300 scholarship. Additionally, the team was awarded an accounting challenge trophy for their participation in the event.
Shawnee Community College Business Instructor Ms. Phyllis Sander said, “I am truly proud of the accomplishments of our team this year. Our students have worked hard, and the knowledge they have gained in the Business Department at SCC showed through in the competition. We are grateful to SIU for the opportunity to compete and for the chance our students had to earn scholarships by participating in this annual event.”
