CAIRO, IL (May 30, 2023) – As students celebrate the end of the academic year around the state, a group of students and alumni in Cairo, Illinois, has something extra to celebrate this year.
Each year, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the Saints Foundation of Shawnee Community College can award Cairo New Horizons Scholarships to as many as 12 students.
So far, two non-traditional students have been awarded funding to enroll in the Shawnee Community College truck driving program. After completing that eight-week course, those students will be career ready.
Four members of the class of 2023 at Cairo High School received awards to attend Shawnee Community College in the fall. Two students are enrolled in our welding program, one in the certified nursing assistant program, and one in the nail technician program.
“We can’t thank our donors enough. This funding goes a long way in providing opportunities for students to become successful and earn a great living,” said Tina Dudley, Executive Assistant to the President & Saints Foundation.
