Sherry Wessel currently serves as the SVP and General Manager of Harrah’s Metropolis and has recently joined the Saints Foundation Board in 2021. Sherry believed that a quality education, close to home, is often an overlooked option and desires to promote the many programs and locations that are beneficial to our region.
Professionally, Sherry serves as the President of the Paducah – McCracken County United Way Board and is President of the Illinois Casino Gaming Association. Born and raised in Metropolis, graduating from University of Illinois in 1990 with a Bachelor’s Degree, she began working at Harrah’s in December of 1992, as the Gift Shop Manager and has worked her through many roles including Director of Human Resources, Director of Non-gaming Operations and Continuous Improvement Leader. Being promoted to SVP and General Manager in 2017, has been the highlight of her career.
Personally, Sherry, her husband Myron and her family love to travel, especially internationally as they learn about a variety of cultures. Her daughter is currently attending Belmont University School of Physical Therapy. A love of yoga and gardening, brings a joy of physical health and stress relief, in addition to Sherry’s passion in helping people succeed. With a variety of definitions of “success”, Sherry serves to encourage! Whether it is learning a new skill, starting a new venture or becoming more involved in the community, Sherry strives to be a positive force for helping people flourish.
In this manner of encouragement and success, Sherry would like everyone to watch the movie “Pursuit of Happyness”. After having met, Chris Gardner, and listening to his candor on the struggles of broken dreams, homelessness, chaos onto eventual success, it is important to realize there is opportunity and decisions should be made on skills and contributions versus circumstance.
