Shawnee Community College Keeps Tuition Rates Steady for Another Year

ULLIN, IL (February 28, 2025) – Great news for students and families! Shawnee Community College is keeping tuition rates the same for the upcoming academic year, ensuring affordability remains a top priority.

Here’s a look at the tuition rates for the 2025-2026 academic year:

  • In-District: $140 per credit hour
  • Out-of-District: $225 per credit hour
  • Out-of-State & International: $235 per credit hour
  • Online Courses: $150 per credit hour

To continue providing students access to cutting-edge technology, the Board of Trustees approved a slight increase in the Universal (Technology) Fee, moving from $15 to $20 per credit hour. A High-Cost Program Fee of $40 per credit hour has been introduced for students in the Associate Degree Nursing, Practical Nursing, Cosmetology, and Nail Technology programs to help cover the rising costs of delivering these high-quality, hands-on programs.

“Without this adjustment, we would have had to raise tuition by an additional $10–$15 per credit hour to keep our financial commitments in check,” said SCC President Dr. Tim Taylor. “Even with these changes, Shawnee Community College remains one of southern Illinois’s most affordable higher education options.”

The vast majority of courses—124 in total—will see no fee changes. Two courses will have fees reduced or removed altogether, while 22 courses will increase fees to better reflect program and material costs.

The new rates will take effect in July 2025, marking the start of the new fiscal year. Shawnee Community College is committed to providing a high-quality, affordable education that helps our students succeed!
