SUMMARY
The IT Student Support Specialist supports the institution’s students, faculty, and staff with technical issues related to accounts, email, LMS, hardware, and software. The specialist also supports and coordinates the activities of students operating computers and peripheral equipment in the computer labs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Computers, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate, express, understand, and develop ideas verbally and in writing with diverse groups.
- Knowledge of Windows Operating System, spreadsheet, and word processing software (Microsoft Word, Excel, E-mail, and the Internet).
Preferred:
- Minimum of three years of experience in providing Information Technology support services.
- Experience within an educational institution.
- Ability to troubleshoot technology equipment-related problems and devise a course of action for implementation.
- A thorough working knowledge of information technology systems involving various operating systems, communications, protocols, and network configurations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
LEADERSHIP
- Creates and sustains a supportive College culture that engages employees, recognizes diversity, ensures equity, promotes inclusion, and creates a sense of belonging by fostering an environment of teamwork, accountability, communication, and vision.
- Assumes responsibility as lead technician for the SCC Help Desk, providing in-person and remote support for students, employees, and any events requiring technology.
- Helps students find solutions to any technology-related needs.
- Troubleshoot user account-related issues for Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Moodle.
- Installs, configures, and maintains Operating system software and application software programs, providing updates as necessary.
- Install, configure, and maintain technology-related equipment such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, networking equipment, and peripheral devices.
- Assists with updating computer labs across all sites.
- Responsible for ordering printer and copier supplies; troubleshoots printing-related issues.
- Provides end-user training for application software programs.
- Maintains a schedule for computer lab usage.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in IT; communicates with the IT to implement changes in policy, training, and resource allocation.
- Maintains campus PC, Mac, and Chromebook inventory, evaluates hardware/software needs, and tracks purchasing status.
- Provides backup network troubleshooting support when necessary.
- Promotes a culture of assessment, quality improvement, and data-informed decision-making.
- Participates as needed with College Shared Governance teams.
- Provide technical writing about the College’s Technology Plan, Computer Usage Policy, and IT Procedure Manual.
- Advises the Director of IT on matters relating to the department, particularly those related to enhancing the college’s technology functions.
ADMINISTRATION/MANAGEMENT
- Ensure students, community members, external partners, and College employees receive excellent customer service in all interactions with each Department within the IT Department.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of all student and employee personnel records.
- Inform students, employees, and the community of activities and assist with website maintenance related to all content, the college intranet (e.g., MYSCC), social media posts, memos, various meetings, and the use of college-wide email.
- Support other Divisions and Departments by providing support needed for activities/reports.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including all requirements issued by the Department of Education for institutions receiving Title IV funds, IPEDS reporting, the Mental Health Act, Alcohol and Drug Education/Drug-Free Schools, FERPA, ADA, VAWA, etc.
- Assist with promoting an evidence-based culture of accountability that guides innovation, implementation of best practices, and continuous quality improvement of all IT operations.
FISCAL
- Assist with the adherence to the IT Department budget as needed.
- Manage risk by monitoring conditions, events, and circumstances present through the performance of the essential functions of this job.
- Manage risk by following proper policies and procedures in all administrative support and IT processes.
- Implement policies and procedures used in emergency and/or crisis management situations.
OTHER
- General work hours are Monday through Friday, with flexible hours; must be able to periodically work outside of regular work hours to meet project deadlines, provide support, and/or attend meetings or events as directed.

Salary Range: $42,000 – $45,000
