SUMMARY

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting passengers along designated routes, adhering to schedules, and providing excellent customer service.  This role requires thorough knowledge of road safety regulations, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage and assist passengers. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a minimum of 25 years of age
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement
  • Documentation of a current Commercial Driver’s License physical exam (medical card)
  • Pass driving record check

Preferred

  • Prior experience as a bus driver in a school environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

LEADERSHIP

PASSENGER TRANSPORT

  1. Operate a bus along a specified route, ensuring timely arrival.
  2. Handle unexpected situations professionally, including road incidents or emergencies.

SAFETY COMPLIANCE

  1. Follow all road safety rules, traffic laws, and college policies to ensure passenger safety.
  2. Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fuel, oil, lights, brakes, and other critical vehicle components.
  3. Report any mechanical issues to security personnel.

NAVIGATION & ROUTE MANAGEMENT

  1. Maintain knowledge of assigned routes and adjust driving patterns if necessary due to road closures, traffic, or weather.

RECORD KEEPING

  1. Log trip information as required, including mileage, hours worked, and passenger count.
  2. Complete incident reports if any problems arise during the trip.

OTHER

  1. Perform other related duties which may be required by the Vice President of Administrative Services (i.e. duties that may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but are generally within the occupational series and responsibility level associated with the employee’s class of work).

SKILLS & ABILITIES include the following:

  • Strong driving and maneuvering skills
  • Ability to apply safe driving techniques in all weather conditions
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical understanding
  • Ability to work fluctuating hours, including weekends

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

Lifting:  Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.  Lifting items to 20 pounds in weight.

Sitting for prolonged periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT    

Hazards: Exposure to vehicular traffic, noise, and exhaust fumes. Continuous exposure to high levels of noise.
